The Report:
This was a battle I was definitely looking forward to, with both Marv and Ness being two battle rappers that I think are really talented and watch out for. I thought Marv was dope when I watched him in the WRC’s and Ness has really become one of my favorite battlers recently.
Ness Lee has been putting in the work to boost his resume over the last year or so, taking on tough competition, whether judged or not. He battle Philly Swain in the East, Illmaculate in the bay, Dirtbag Dan in California, Syd Vicious, and now Marv. He either beat or gave each one of those guys very tough competition, where you could make a case for him winning. He’s one of the most versatile rappers, who’s foundation is his rapping ability and delivery. He then mixes in wordplay, stop pauses, and as he showed in this battle, he could drop some gun lines, and all that usually builds up to a win for him – its a very tough combination, when a guy can first just out rap you, and also has the intelligence to intertwine clever lines.
I was very curious to see what kind of bars Marv would bring to this match up. Marv is also a very versatile battle rapper. He can “out-street” a lot of dudes, but is eclectic enough to be able to entertain and connect with the “nerd” crowd. Look at his whole WRC campaign, it was a lot of clever and hilarious lines, and then watch his battles with Famous, Nems, or Cortez, and you see a whole different kind of battle rapper. In this one, he mixed it up, he had some guns bars, but also had a lot of jokes. Thats what makes him such a talented MC, he can play to crowd that is watching the battle, and just has a lot of ammunition in his arsenal.
